A Tribute to Dick Esmond – Jazz at The Plough

We’re very sad to share the news that Dick Esmond, the driving force behind Jazz at the Plough, passed away suddenly on Wednesday 9th April at the age of 84.

Dick had been bringing live jazz to The Plough since the 1980s. His monthly sessions became a beloved part of our calendar and played a part in the very beginnings of the Ealing Jazz Festival. For over five decades, his band and his music brought joy to countless people – and The Plough was proud to be his home stage.

On Thursday 1st May, we’ll be holding a special tribute night in his honour. It will be a chance to reflect, to celebrate his life, and to enjoy the music he championed for so long.

The line-up for the evening includes guests from the Sound of 17:
 Alan Berry – piano
 Peter Morgan – bass
 Dave Golding – drums
 Dave Jenkins – alto sax
 Nick Mills – trombone
 Ed Benstead – trumpet

Dick’s legacy will live on in every note played. Jazz at the Plough will continue – and always in his honour.
